YouTube — what else — shows a pro-china propaganda for the Tibetan occupation (1). And in some point they may be right. The west has it’s own occupied regions…

Some propaganda should be allowed. If countries would like to boycott the games they should also be able to do that. It is strange that despite the protest, there is no boycott announced by any country.

Is this linked to an increasing fear for economic repercussions of China to the west? It could very well be. Business and politics are not often mixed. In fact the saying goes never to mix them: politics and business. (even more true if your business is the supply of weapons).

China is changing and so is the trademark “made in China.” It will soon become a mark of quality. But we have to remember where is all started. It started with the Chinese bazaar on the corner, where you could buy anything from toys to tools of a lower quality than the (logical) higher priced alternatives in the home market.

Recently I saw a news story on television where a Chinese man had disguised himself as a Tibetan demonstrator. This was as I understood later to discredit the Tibetan people as violent whereas they are not by nature. A very creative solution and in a war where everything is allowed… So they say.

In (economic) war we have to be careful for this seemingly harmless low cost competition of products that have still a lower quality. Because this is only where it starts: a continuous cycle to improve the quality will finally make the product competing with the home production

China will change the world economy. As long as this happens in a fair way (thus not by using disguised demonstrators) the west should accept this… Otherwise not.

(1) – Tibet has always been, will always stay…) http://youtube.com/watch?v=x9QNKB34cJo

© 2008 Hans Bool
